Ostara 2006
From John and Bertski
Hailsa all,
We got back safe and sound, and dry, from Ostara 2006. We had left on Friday Morning, in the rain, and we drove up to Boy Scout Camp Cutter. The road into the Camp site was mud with holes. Thought we might throw out the suspension on the car when we hit a big one. It had stopped raining before we had gotten to the campsite and we where hoping that it would not start again. We had checked the weather report before we left home and it showed that the rain was almost over, at least up at the camp site. The ones that had arrived Thursday where a bit wet, some even had to move into the Boy Scout tents in order to stay dry, thank the gods that they where still up.
There was some beds still open at the dining hall so John and I splurged and got us some bed space and save us from using the tent. Yea.
The rest of the day was clear but cool as other people where arriving, we got to see Drew and Jim with a friend of theirs, Sam. Got signed in and shown our room and we got set up. Of course not much to do. We then walked around to see who was there and stopped with Hammer and Spear Kindred and talked with Justin an the rest. They had the privilege of arriving Thursday and "enjoying" the rain storm.
Saturday turned out to be a beautiful and sunny day, a bit cool though but livable. Well to find out the wonderful people that set us up for the weekend had double booked the Dining hall, we where sharing it with a group of Boy Scout leaders there for a meeting. So we had to work around them but we got it worked out with them.
Thors Blot at 10:00 AM, Actually starting at 10:30 which is normal for Heathen's. The Thors Blot went very well and it was good to see everyone there or should I say the ones that had shown up by that time. And for the first time in years we had PRUDENCE PRIEST giving a workshop on Amber, and she had a booth open for the day. It was good to see her after all these years. There was a Hawk Walk with a small number of people going with the Falconers so they could see the birds in action, missed that one.
There was the Valkyrie Games, there was 4 girls who did the Valkyrie games so it went fairly fast, and starting time was late as usual.
We had the Raffle and the Feast in the main hall, the raffle went off great. There was some great items up for the raffle and a they 2 swords up for the raffle. And the winner for the last and best sword was: Albert Ward! I had won the sword from Ostara for the second time. Still can't believe it and I think Stefn was in shock, but I won't complain.
Dinner was great as usual, Sandy and the gang did a kick ass job on the food. No one went hungry.
After Dinner there was a talk from Steve McNallen, he talked of his trip to Ireland and finding his family roots there and I believe getting many in the audience the energy to explore there family history.
Sunday was another great and sunny day, we packed and went to the
Ostara blot, Diana Paxton and Lorrie Wood where not in attendance this
Ostara. I under stand there was a time conflict with another event that they where attending. So Jana set the Ostara Blot that was just great, even though John and I where filming and taking pictures. We got to say our goodbye's to every one and we came on home.
We had a great time and was sad it was ending, we really enjoy seeing everyone from up and down the state.
Feast this year will be at Camp Chawanakee in September, when I get the exact date I will let all know.
Have a Great week and hope to see all soon.
Frith,
Albert and John
